Engine woa. Empty
PostSubject: Engine woa.   Engine woa. EmptyThu Aug 07, 2014 3:19 am

Rialto SE engine been rattly for a while. Suspected chain tensioner failure.
Consequently it's been stationary outside the house waiting for it's move to a new house and garage.

This morning had a knock on the door to move the car as the road is to be resurfaced.

Took it out into the next street but noticed the engine was only firing on 3. Not unusual for an engine that's not had a chance to warm up and hasn't moved for months.

But more curiously the orange light didn't go out! affraid

Checked the oil level that was fine.

The last time I had this on a car it was a Lada and the timing chain tensioner had disintegrated and bits had gone through the oil pump causing it to fail.
Is this likely to have happened to my Rialto? Is there another explanation?

I had the oil light stay on on a robin once, I took the oil pressure switch out, gave it a good clean with petrol, put it back in and the problem was solved.
Not saying that is your problem but it might be worth trying before stripping the engine  Smile

I would also say you pressure relief valve may be stuck but is the easy option to check and sort

Thanks this is very reassuring. I have too much to do for quite a while so It'll be awhile before I find out the truth.

I too had this on my Robin. The pressure regulator ball was not seating correctly. Cleaned and reassembled; problem solved Smile

(The rubbish in the sump was unbelievable and I suspect the oil filter element had failed too  Shocked Sad )

The oil pressure switches are really bad, probably nothing wrong with the car. Also the wire is prone to breaking off the sender and earthing out causing the light to illuminate.

Isn't everyone so helpful Smile I've bought a new oil pressure switch and it'll be fitted today together with a new oil filter. The sump has gone through the dishwasher and had a fresh coat of paint on the outside. Fingers crossed, I'll let you know how it PAN's out Laughing ...please yourselves *said in

Strange, I thought I had already wrapped this thread up.
Anyway, now the timing chain tensioner, chain and sprockets have been changed and the oil switch changed all is sweetness and light (not the oil light though, that's out now).
Next step is to book an MoT and start to enjoy the little beast.
