Fox headlights

How do you change a headlight bulb on a Fox?
My mechanic can't work it out.

thats ridiculous, its the easiest job in world, take big black grill off, undo the metal surround around the headlight, remove the headlight and then change bulb

Lol that's easier than both of my Beetles and I can do that literally by the side of the road !

'Take the big black grille off' can be a challenge in itself...
There is a setscrew near each end on the outside, which will have a rounded-off head because someone has used the wrong screwdriver [no. 3 or 4 pozi, not philips], and it'll be solidly rusted in place anyway. Then, take off the plate in front of the radiator [4 screws, no. 2 pozi] and you should see at each side of the front void a stud poking through the grp from the rear of the bumper, with a tiny nut on. I have never worked out the size of these nuts; they seem to vary, and are usually pretty rusted on, as well as being a pain to get at. You can just see them with a torch. Beware: the studs usually give way before the nut. Then you can glass in the head of a more normal bolt or setscrew where the remains of the stud was glassed into the back of the bumper. While the bumper is off, rub it down with a green scouring pad and give it a coat of satin black acrylic. Looks like new!
Don't forget to grease the headlamp rims and fixings and get the adjusters freed off and WD40d, cos you'll need to readjust when they're back in place.
